Slow Cooker Heroes
There is something rather magical about coming home from work and being welcomed by the smell of dinner all cooked and ready with minimal effort in the morning for maximum reward in the evening.
Life can be hectic, between work, children, school runs, Cubs, Brownies, hospital appointments, housework, walking peanut, tending to the garden and everything else which consumes my day, and getting a proper homemade dinner on the table every night isn't always easy, especially with so many different diets within the house. So by just by throwing a handful of ingredients into the pot in the morning and walk away, no frantic chopping when I get in late or standing over the cooker when I'm tired and exhausted and avoids the need for CBA takeaway or beans on toast.
If feeling extra lazy or super busy I can grab on of my freezer grab and go bags chuck it in and leave, making it even easier to have a warm dinner on the tablet within minutes when I arrive home from a long day.
Who doesn't love meals that are :
EASY: minimal Prep and fuss
BUDGET FRIENDLY:Making simple ingredients go far
FAMILY FRIENDLY: Comforting food that everyone enjoys
FREEZER FRIENDLY: Perfect for batch cooking
WASTE SAVING: A brilliant way to use up vegetables and ingredients that need using.
TIME SAVING: Do the prep when you have time and let the slow cooker do all the work
For me slow cooking isn't about complicated recipes or buying a cupboard full of special ingredients, it's about looking at what you already have and asking what can I make with this? It's one of my favourite ways to avoid food waste. You can use fresh foods, frozen food, store cupboard staples, sad looking vegetables on their last legs, it doesn't matter, it all comes together and tastes amazing.
Slow cookers come in all shapes and sizes, my absolute favourite slow cooker is 3 separate pots meaning I can cook different meals for the different diets in our house and a side, each can go onto a different setting, I usually cook sides on low and meals on high to get the perfect cooking. As we speak I have 2 curries and Saag Aloo cooking whilst I'm recovering from a sticking cold and know by tonight the last thing I will feel like is cooking and means I can blog, blow my noise and recover without the worry of whats for dinner, o finding the energy to muster up something good.
